Project Story

From metal building to modern service facility.

Affordable Mechanix began as a 15,000-square-foot pre-engineered metal building. Paper Plane Architecture converted it into a fully operational mechanic shop — dedicated service areas, offices, a welcoming reception, restrooms, and the support spaces a growing business runs on.

The work centered on function: a better workflow, a stronger customer experience, and a facility built to support long-term operations.

The Existing Structure

A new purpose for an existing structure.

The project transforms an existing pre-engineered metal building into a purpose-built automotive service environment. Dark framing, metal cladding, extensive glazing, and multiple service-bay doors give it a clean, functional identity — and a welcoming, professional arrival for customers and staff.

From Shell to Shop

An empty shell, rebuilt around the work.

The interior shifts completely in character — from a bare steel frame to an organized service floor. Multiple vehicle lifts and dedicated work areas support an efficient workflow while keeping circulation clear across the facility.

Service Floor

Built around the work.

A spacious, organized main floor for automotive repair and maintenance — multiple service bays, an open work floor, and clear circulation throughout.

Equipment & Operations

Equipped for everyday service.

The shop is organized around the equipment and operational needs of a modern service environment: vehicle lifts, tire-service equipment, storage, and dedicated workstations across the floor.

Each area is arranged to improve workflow and give technicians easy access to the tools they use most.
